Ultrasound

Radiology Tasmania has two state of the art Siemens Antares ultrasound machines.

What is an ultrasound examination?
Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of the body. A probe is moved across the skin surface, which produces an image on a screen.

How do I prepare?
Preparation may include:

  • Changing into a patient gown
  • Drinking water prior to your scan, so that your bladder is full
  • Fasting prior to your scan

Who will scan me?
A Sonographer will carry out your scan
A radiologist may also be present and perform some of, or your entire scan

What happens during the examination?

  • You will be asked to lie on a couch
  • A gel is applied your skin surface; this allows transmission of the sound waves
  • The procedure is painless and harmless and usually takes 10-30 minutes
If you have any questions just ask.
